Philly's Indie Rock Gems

The Penny Fletcher Trio emerged from Philadelphia's vibrant music scene in the early 2010s, bringing a fresh and dynamic energy to the indie rock genre. Formed in 2012, the band consists of three talented musicians: lead vocalist and guitarist Penny Fletcher, bassist and backing vocalist Alex Turner, and drummer Kelly Reyes. Despite their name, the trio has always been a cohesive unit, blending their individual talents to create a powerful and distinctive sound.

Penny Fletcher, the band's namesake, was a prominent figure in Philadelphia's underground music circuit. Her raw, emotive voice and lyrical prowess quickly garnered attention. Alex Turner, known for her intricate bass lines and harmonizing skills, joined forces with Penny, bringing a depth and complexity to the music. Kelly Reyes, a powerhouse drummer with a background in jazz and punk, completed the trio, adding a dynamic and rhythmic foundation to their sound.

Debut and "Ballads"

In 2013, after signing with her father's label Dead Pinhole Records, The Penny Fletcher Trio released their debut album, "Hymns for the Stars." The album was a critical and commercial success, showcasing the band's knack for blending introspective lyrics with melodic noise rock. Standout tracks like "Midnight Train" and "Echoes in the Alley" quickly became fan favorites and earned the band a loyal following.

Building on their initial success, The Penny Fletcher Trio released their second album, "Vintage Ballads of Glass & Stardust," in 2015. This album marked a significant evolution in their sound, featuring more playful and experimental compositions. With songs like "Inside Up" and "Feverish Traffic Jam," the band explored themes of youth, loss, and resilience. "So Many Barbaras" received widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike, solidifying their place in the indie rock landscape.

The Long Wait for the Future

Despite no new studio music since the release of "Vintage Ballads," The Penny Fletcher Trio has continued to tour extensively, captivating audiences with their electrifying live shows. They have become staples at major music festivals and have shared the stage with some of the biggest names in indie rock. Their third album, long anticipated by fans and critics alike, promises to further push the boundaries of their sound.

The Trio has been praised for their ability to capture the essence of the human experience through their music. Their intricate harmonies, poignant lyrics, and energetic performances have earned them comparisons to bands like Sleater-Kinney and The Breeders. They have been a driving force in the resurgence of all-female bands in the indie rock scene, inspiring a new generation of musicians.

The Penny Fletcher Trio remains a testament to the power of collaboration, creativity, and the enduring spirit of indie rock. Their journey from the streets of Philadelphia to the international stage is a story of passion, perseverance, and the unbreakable bond of friendship.
